So as the net evolves, the web community seems to be investing more and more time into further developing standards so that browsers, whether on tablet, desktop or mobile , deliver us content in new engaging ways.

The latest iteration of such developments is HTML5 and it’s partner in crime CSS3. HTML has been around for some time and so has CSS, what’s so different that they’ve been assigned new versions?  Well in summary, both HTML and CSS have a set of standards which are defined in one place and from there on browser developers and web-designers essentially follow a rule book to make sure applications and tools use the standards properly. It’s a little like grammar but for web developers.

In the case of HTML, version 5 sees the introduction of new syntax ( new words and grammar for the language ) which allows designers and browsers to manipulate content such as video and audio without the use of messy plug-ins or tools that slow down the experience. Think of it like the introduction of ‘lol‘ and ‘lmfao‘ to the dictionary, allows you to express allot more without doing much more.

CSS ( Cascading Style Sheets) is ironically a standard that was taken from print. For most you don’t need to know much more than CSS is essentially what gives the HTML it’s design look and fell. Take away CSS from any web page and it’s design will go with it. Have a go at http://www.csszengarden.com/, one website with multiple CSS based designs.

The great thing about CSS3 is that it’s made it easier for designers to make your pages look nicer with very little effort. As a result, you may have noticed web designs adopting some lovely new fonts, and also adaptive pages that change design to suit your mobile, tablet, TV, Projector or desktop computer.

And that’s it pretty much, the rest is better seen, so below are 5 awesome HTML5 and CSS3 based websites.
