So making a calendar is a fairly easy process (software permitting) especially if you employ a template, or use one of the many scripts out there that gives you a foundation on which to build on. That said, many of these scripts either leave you with allot of tweaking to do making you wonder why you didn’t start from scratch or in my view, they take the fun away from the joys of laying up and dont leave you with an inspiring design.
These days, thanks to the power tools in Adobe InDesign CS5 or later, setting up shop with calendar design is a breeze. The only tedious task I found this year was adding the dates manually (having a smartphone or tablet with the calendar application fired up was almost essential ). The rest was mostly images so dropping the images in was simple job. Of course taking and getting hold of the images is a project in itself but the whole task of laying up is something that fits nicely into a Sunday afternoon.
Below are some previews of how I customised mine this year. The calendar was themed for YUSU RAG and featured sports teams, societies, and student representatives baring it all for charity.
You can download the template I created below, all I ask for is a tweet. I’ve stripped it of content but left the styling I used. This can all be editted very quickly using the object and paragraph stylesheets which I’ve labelled. The great thing about this layup is that you can strip the dates and use it again and again. Any questions can be fed through the comments. Enjoy !
